OPEN CALLS FOR ARTISTS
Please keep an eye on the website and our social media for all future 'Open Calls' for artists.
ARTIST LED EXHIBITIONS
Each year we aim run a programme of 2/3-week artist-led exhibitions, providing opportunities for artists to show their work in a professional gallery setting, with access to our website, mailing list and our social media. Number 43 offers the choice of up to two exhibiting spaces, one large open plan and a smaller more personal space both come with a professional hanging and lighting system in a unique setting.
This programme offers artists the opportunity to create and participate in ambitious, challenging exhibitions and events. Submissions are welcomed from solo or small groups (of up to 4) artists working in any media. Regular ‘Open Calls’ are issued on social media, but you may submit a proposal at any time.
Artists will be chosen based on strength of ideas and quality of work.
We particularly welcome artists whose work focuses on relevant concerns in contemporary art practice, who would like the opportunity to experiment and push their work without commercial constraints, and who use varied media such as film, sound and installation as well as painting, drawing and sculpture. We wish to give our visitors the opportunity to engage directly with artist.
As our gallery has a strong ethical bias, we give preference to artists whose work has a particular ethical focus and on those with strong community engagement and are planning to offer workshops during their show. Every selected artist will be expected to give either an artist’s talk or a more informal ‘Meet the Artist’ event. Our artist-led shows suit early to mid-career working artists, and we welcome shows from all artists regardless of sex, age, race, disability, sexual orientation, or religion. Proposals go through a rigorous selection process by our panel, from which we curate a varied cohesive programme of exhibitions to engage and challenge our audience.
How to Submit:
Please email a PDF with your proposal for a show. This should include a title and a statement about your show in under 400 words; a maximum of 4 images
(or 2 per artist for a group show); a cv/bio and a link to your
website(s) and social media links.
Our artist-led shows are based on a discounted fixed fee, which is a contribution to our overheads.
Our marketing and PR is given free. Please contact us for details of our current rates and Terms & Conditions
and detailed plans of the spaces.
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
As well as as our artist led exhibitions, we also offer residency placements for artists.
This would be given as free studio space, including accommodation, to the artist in residence for up to 3 weeks, including in a week long exhibition within the large gallery space of 43 Oxford Street. The selected artist will have a focus on site-specific work and community engagement. The intention of the residency is to broaden the experiences of both the artist and our audience. In order to do this, the artist will be expected to give regular opportunities during the residency for visitors to come in, ask questions and watch the artistic process unfold, they will also be expected to give either an artist’s talk or a more informal ‘Meet the Artist’ event.
The gallery will document and share your progress on our website, in our newsletter and on our social media. There is no application fee to enter, and the residency is open to all artists regardless of sex, age, race, disability, sexual orientation, or religion.
Please email a PDF with your proposal for a residency.
