Camilla Bliss
Arcana, 2022
Glazed ceramic, needlepoint and bronze clover
When she was younger Camilla and couldn’t sleep and used to wake up in the middle of the night and turn on the TV to see ‘test card F’ - the depiction of a young girl and clown. This work explores the lucid space between our conscious and unconscious being. It is inspired by our relationship to technology and the space our minds enter when we are engaging with digital devices. Over-saturation of technology can lure us into alternative worlds as we disconnect from our physical surroundings. Similarly, we can fall into a meditative mindset through the repetitive action of needlepoint as an image is built up through pixelated threads or when kneading clay.
