Claire Rollinson studied BA Hons in Fine Art (specialising in painting) at Plymouth and Falmouth Colleges of Art and Design.

The constant drive through her years of practice is a desire to reconcile the changing outside world with the evolving inner world, and to share this journey through exhibiting her work. To this end, she has worked in a variety of materials and forms of expression predominantly in oils. She has also created bodies of work in ink and watercolour on Chinese and Japanese papers (2005 – 2020), monoprints (2011 – 2013) and collage (2019 – 2020) in addition to working with sewing, papier maché and performance. Claire has exhibited in England and Northern Ireland.

Her present work in watercolour eschews figuration preferring the motif of a square, which is chosen for its qualities of stability, its implied integrity and its resistance to manipulation. Painted on the flat with buckets of water and an array of brushes, pots and trays, the process is like a meditation or dance. The paint is applied to very wet paper then allowed to dry, followed by rewetting and reworking - blotting and coaxing. Where one painting reaches its conclusion another begins... Then proceeding, as it must, towards its own point of realisation.

"My desire is that my paintings become places where the viewer can pause for contemplation and find reassurance and courage."
