Leslie worked with textiles for 7 years before her new technique ‘painting with threads’
developed. She describes the joyous process as “bursting with potential and magical
discovery, I can celebrate the changing seasons and the power and majesty of the sea. An
understanding of perspective and perception is key to this technique. Images appear from
placing threads of cotton, wool, silk, silver, and gold, of sunsets over the water, woodlands at
dusk, hillsides and rolling seas. Suggested depth using carefully placed textures and colours
encourages the eye to see beyond each line to a surface or landscape our own imagination
puts together. Working this way has become both informative and creatively challenging,
bringing together all the years of learning and study.”
Wildman delights at working with wools, cottons and linens, finding the colours
“evocative and delicious”. A mixture of her layering technique, a fascination with
experimenting with line and perspective, with the skeins and cones of beautiful variegated
yarns, she pushes her art practice beyond that of a normal painting, creating vistas that she
describes as “wanting to live in each one”.
Since leaving the BA at Middlesex University with a 1st class honours degree, Lesley was a
competition winner at the glass museum in Stourbridge and was accepted to the Royal
College of Art studying sculptural glass.
She has exhibited in London, Paris, New York, and Germany.
Today working with this method has bought much acclaim and Lesley now has many
